Recycled boat part 25

The boat is finally on the trailerI have to put some 1.5 x4 planks under the boat for it to sit on.

The winch had wire rope with all the hall marks of a prickly pear and I renewed with strapping should have done it earlier. The seats need to be put in and it will be finished but today into the Briney she goes.

Cabbage moths

To chase off cabbage moths.
You need a chook (hen) with no coloured feathers at all that is totally white,  when she lays an egg use the egg as you wish,  and keep the shell and break this up and place around tomatoes or other cabbage moth food plants.
I don't know weather it is the shell or the smell of the egg or both but cabbage moths will fly away leaving your plants alone. Dont believe me try it but it must be a totally white egg from a totally white hen.
Why do white hens lay white eggs and brown hens lay brown eggs and black hens don't lay black eggs?

Recycled boat part 24

Getting there the deck is on and screwed down and the gunnel rails are screwed on I used 2" by 6guage decking screws in stainless

The hull has just been painted and the rain started but I think it is dry enough all is looking good for a launch in the new year...The total days worked on the boat is to this day 24. Not bad from the first photo which I will display when the boat is totally finished on the same page for comparison..Crikey its two days till Christmas..cheers Stewart

Recycled boat part 23

This is the bow with the gunnel rail screwed on. The stainless piece to stop the wood splitting is a cut down spoon screwed on.

This is the transom with the outboard motor bracket attached.  Note the gunnel rail to the left also the bolt has a spoon as a washer to stop the bolt pulling into the wood. I was a bit dubious about hthe strength of the glue and screwed the deck down with stainless screws.

My best mate Alex Revel

Alex was tops he is the one in the car.

I just lost my mate to cancer he was a fantastic bloke and was a Professor  Doctor and God of engineering at the University of Technology Sydney and at times was the Dean of the university.  Some might not think so but this is my blog and he can have the highest honors I can bestow on him. He was a great statesman and ambassador for his country of birth and an Australian of great qualities. He will be sadly missed by ex students from all over the globe as well by friends and colleagues. He did great work in the Solomon Islands and New Guinea giving hydro electric power to some villages. He worked not from nine to five but nine to nine on many occasions helping students with shell mileage marathon and the solar boat race in Canberra and the triple AAA fuel challenge with over night and into the next day stints. He helped me in the Energy Challenge to beat some of the biggest players in the country with this car, producing the lower green house gas emissions that was required. The car had a wing on it so as to be seen on Sydney streets, It was and still is the only ever street registered Shell Mileage Marathon car in the world.  We also did work on water injection into the fuel system with mixed results. More can be read on the first blog.  He worked on wind tunnel tests after making the wind tunnel and did work on whirlybirds to test there effectiveness.
His most famous sayings were:-
'There are one's who must never know" This was to be used when the workers made a shitter.
Then there was the saying "There are one's who must be told". This was to be used when the bosses made a shitter.
If he agreed then his hands would go up and he would say "Why not!"
"See you in the never never Alex".    cheers Stewart

Is that a world record for a comment to be made after the article has been posted "six minutes"?

Global cooling

It's high time all forms of motor racing were started and made mandatory so as to increase the road toll, as shown by the increase in the road toll in NSW after the race in Sydney's Homebush road race at speeds of over 150 km/hour on city streets. More speed changes should be introduced to keep drivers in stress mode and this will increase the revenue to the government.  SUV production increased so as to increase road rage and an increase in the road toll injuries ,Bayer needs to sell more contaminated tablets to these people. All commuting carried out by private transport (and increased commuting by air).Any one who says global warming is a problem should be put on a Monsanto food diet. We deserve to be here and given substandard foods and water with chemicals added.  Come on Du Pont you can kill more and introduce laws to make the masses more susceptible to disease and make the masses pay. Its your right . Come on Haliburton, George needs more money as he doesn't have a country to smash up. As for the banks increase your pay checks and the little people will bale you out so you can have another pay rise. Come on increase the price of fuels and electricity and when the people can't pay for the product then charge for its availability, come on you can do it, its you right.. There it is and this is only scratching the surface, this is the new order of things. Pay  pay  pay then ask for money to feed the people who are starving and who need to be educated in these things so as to increase the market size. We are running out of money for the elite what will they doooooo. Greedy BUSTARDS this is only the prelude to the next stock market crash and the grabbing by the big players. Its going to make the last crash insignificant,  Malcolm Frazer a ex prime minister in Australia said to put your money under your mattress. I think it was him. Well there you have it or don't have it

Recycled boat part 22

I decided that the glue alone was not strong enough to hold the deck down and bought some stainless steel screws  to hold it on. Total cost $103 + previous costings149.85 + bung 2.50 = $255.35.  Then there is the bolts for the outboard brackets $42.00 + $255.35  =  $297.35.  Two spoons from the tip to make washers $1= Total to this point $298.35.    I have been given some paint to paint the hull so what I got is going to be the colour of the hull.

This boat building is costly for a free boat.  I haven't factored in time at commercial rates which would be roughly 22 days x say $15 per hour x eight hours per day  would equal say 22 x 15 x 8 = $ 2640

Then there is electricity fuel to get parts cost of car and insurances tools and there depreciation add say $100 insurance fuel say $100 tools say $100 use able things like sandpaper  and saw blades especially when I hits a nail.  This total = $300

Add to that administration charges, using the trailer as an example. Cost of article + 10 % and this would be.

2640 labour

 298.35 parts

$300 for fuel etc.

sub total $3038.35

Add administration charges $3038.35

grand total = $6076.70

Free boat not so free. Worth doing probably not but it is different. New laws in Australia require new boats to be engineered and certified, making the building of new boats impracticable for the armature

Clean fuel

Hydrogen is the clean fuel of the future or is it. They the experts say that all you get when burning hydrogen is water and this is not so. Here it is the truth, when burning  anything in the atmosphere there is nitrous oxides given off as a byproduct of burning, anything that is burnt. If you burn wood there is other chemicals in the wood that combine with oxygen that is called pollution.  If coal is burnt there is sulphur given off along with other chemicals that is not good for humane health.  Where does oxygen come from the answer is green vegetable matter that is trees and plants.  No trees and plants no oxygen = suffocation.  All animals including humans. Total decimation of the planet. How long,  Some say only God knows. The real problem is going to be lack of Oxygen,  Steel making uses 99% pure oxygen in the BOS, huge amounts of Oxygen in the Basic Oxygen Steel  making process to take out the carbon. They have mechanical extraction plants at steel production works to squeeze pure oxygen from the atmosphere. Transport uses huge amounts of Oxygen.  Coal burning power stations use huge amounts of Oxygen to make electricity.  Respiratory problems are on the increase, why?  Lower amounts of oxygen for animals to sustain life...

Why is the Ozone layer disappearing  well Ozone is three oxygen atoms joined together and what we have is a lack of oxygen  to form three atom molecules.  Oxygen joins easily with any other element and here is the real problem and when this happens it takes atoms of Oxygen from the ozone layer. That's it simple....

Production of Oxygen
Oxygen, the second-largest volume industrial gas, is produced commercially as a gas or as a liquid by several methods. These include:

»
Cryogenic Air separation, a process that compresses and cools atmospheric air, then, - relying on different boiling points - separates the resulting liquid into its components in a distillation column

»
Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption (VPSA), a non-cryogenic technology that produces oxygen from air by using an adsorbent in a pressure swing process to remove nitrogen

straight talk

I had this friend We will call him say, Peter C  cause that is his name and he said that authority didn't like straight talk. He owned a sawmill in Wollongong and the mill had been going for three generations or more before he got it. When his father died he transferred the mill licence to his name before his father died. On the death of his father the council came and told him to shut up shop as the licence was in his fathers name. Well Pete said "what was the piece of paper on the wall pork chops". They looked and said when did you change that?  He says are you oafs lawyers or some thing asken so many questions. They left.  They came back with the fire brigade and they asked what he would do if the wood caught on fire?  Well Pete being pretty smart but not one with them university qualifications, scratched his head for a while before answering and then said in a slow drawl "I.   guess.   I .  will.    have.   to.   get.  another.  load . in . then."  I was standing there and had to turn my back to stop laughing. Then there was this other time he sold some second hand wood for fire wood and this bloke and he came in and said there was some steel screwed to the wood and that he payed good money for fire wood!  Pete's reply was "just .  leave.   it .  there . and  . go .  and .  get .  another .  piece .  from.   the.   stack ..over. there!" The stack he pointed to was the farthermost stack away down the yard. On another occasion they complained about nails in the timber and he said "get .  that.   piece .  of .  timber. there .  with.   all .  the .  nails.   in.   it .  and .  take.   it .  home . for. free. and.   to.. watch ..  and .  see.   the .  nails .  burn.   brighter.   and   I.   didn't.   charge. you.   extra   for.   these.   good.   pieces" . Well strike me down the bloke fell for it and there was another happy customer.  Now that's straight talk and all them Co's from them big organisation's councils Lawyers and governments can't beet that. The trouble is that some folks talk heaps and say nothing and that aint straight talk.

electricity prices

Well, they are at it again. 60% increase in prices.  I know how to reduce prices by 60% sack the greedy bustards that get productivity bonuses for what 60 % increases in prices. Talk about  health care why not give the pill to women and that will save the health care in Australia. Here it is 20 million people in Australia,    half woman that leaves 10 million half of these woman are sexually active that leaves 5million x that by 40 dollars to see a doctor each month x twelve months= 5m x40 x12 =  $2,400,000,000....greedy bustards no wonder we are going broke..Getting back to electricity they haven't done anything new to infastructure for years, but they have raped the system, maybe its time for the pill to be given to the Ceo's and all of Australia $%^&*#@ the bustards.  As I said in one of my articles on Onlysolar.com.au don't go grid interactive go small solar and batteries as you use less of there electricity they charge a standing fee before you get paid for your electricity that you produce.

Reduce your light component of your bill by getting some garden solar lights and bring them in at night..There is a story about lights and global warming on footrotflats.blogspot.com

Murrumbidgee river vandalism at Gundagai

From this

To this in three days
I am disturbed by the clearing of the river banks one kilometer up from the old wooden Albert bridge at  Gundagai. The trees that have been removed are red river gum fig trees gum trees shrubs include Lilly pilly along with willow and other noxious weeds. I have made complaints about platypus getting killed and white tip river rats as well by wild dogs. I have also mentioned that there is Spotted Quoll in the area. There is echidna in the area as I have photographed them as well. Ring tail possums and normal possums abound.I was only there for two days and did not get to see if the bat colony has been removed as well, which I think it has. National parks won't do any thing as it is not a national park I know this as I have contacted them before, but it is probably common ground owned by the government. The common ground owned by the government is in a terrible state with black willow normal willow and black berries rife along with other noxious weeds. The third photo shows that some of the ground is an island.See previous post below environment disasters..

Recycled boat part 21

Today I took the boat down to the water and put her in the liquid stuff. It floated well and when the motor was started it took off like a rocket even with the three hp motor. There was four tiny leaks in the hull and these were blocked up with some twigs pushed into the holes. The motor mount that I made bent under the strain of the motor and it tilted enough to send the fuel to the back of the fuel tank and the motor stopped,  I was unable to get a real good idea of the performance but it will be good.  I got out a paddle and it paddled so easily. I think I will make one of them single rowing oars that I read about as this boat will fly with one. The first sight of the hull and her lines suggested that she was fast and stable in that swamp. Turns out that I was right. This boat is a real goer. Sorry that there is no photos as I left the camera behind..The sail board that I bought yesterday turns out to be two sail boards and have all the equipment with them,  I will make them into a land yacht.  Remember the stove I was making it failed to burn properly but makes fantastic charcoal. Thanks for reading the blog,  there will be no posts for a while as I am going to be busy for a while, probably a week....  Have a great Christmas and new year if I forget.... cheers Stewart

Recycled boat part 20

I went out today to get four bolts for the boat and came home with a sail board. What do you do when you see a bargain. Well I got the bolts and will do some more work on the boat tomorrow..

The spider

Living in Gundagai it was hot in the summer extremely hot and the coolest room was the toilet. The only way to keep cool was to spray water over yourself with a spray bottle filled with water.  In the toilet there was a lot of flies and insects that loitered there. This huge spider came to stay it was about eight inches in diameter,  I think it was a funnel web spider. As I have said before everything gets named! So the spiders name was Betty and she became part of the family. Well doing the bloke thing I sprays the spider with water and it starts swinging on its web as if to say I'm gunna get you. Every time I went in there it would start swinging on its web, I pointed this out to Pam my wife and she said that it didn't do that when she went in there. I asked visitors and they said the same thing. It only swung on its web when I went in there.  I often would spray it to cool it down but in hindsight I think it raised its blood pressure when I came in. I wasn't allowed to kill it and it was then named Betty. I worked it out anything that I wanted to eat of kill got a name and when they had a name they became part of the family, now being part of the family there was no way to kill it. Betty was there to stay. Betty was flaming huge as I said huge for a spider turns out she was pregnant and along came the children.Thousands of them these were not named individually so they had to go. Now I had to contend with Betty and her kids, she was more aggressive than before so the spraying had to stop by the order of the management. This order was given as they were so tiny the water droplets might drown the babies. Then the management stepped in again and ordered Betty to take her children out as they were not welcome, Orders from the management were final and had to be carried out. You wouldn't believe it the next day they were gone and only Betty remained,  I think she must have ate them cause they were all gone. Betty lived on to a ripe old age there and finally we found her skeleton all dried up.The photo is not Betty but is called Jill not quite as big and a different species.

Recycled boat part 19

It came time to turn the boat again and without the use of the crane on the trailer it would have been impossible by myself..

the next series of photos shows the process.
There it is easy done. I will put the outboard bracket on tomorrow.

saving water

If you live in inland Australia it dosn't mater how much water you use as it all flows back to the rivers, What matters is how dirty the water is when it gets back there. cheers Stewart

carbon dioxide

Carbon dioxide is a green house gas and is produced by cattle and sheep and we as humans breed these animals for food. Every thing we do produces the co2 gas  that traps heat in the atmosphere travel, cars, power stations, boats, everything. This everyone knows and is a fact, no disputes at all.

So here is my solution to reducing these gases.

Stop breeding humans, stop the baby bonuses, have one child policies, stop emigration.
But not what the Politicians want to here not what you want to hear either but there it is.
Having a green house gas tax wont fix anything just put more pressure on the poorer in society and they will remain poorer if this policy is not implemented. Don't breed. Your choice!

Dogs kennel

I have built a dog kennel to show how off cuts from a timber yard can be used. Its plantation pine 3" x 2" and is stacked using glue for mortar and assisted with nails. I had to make it wider at the top so the dog could turn around,  but kept the floor area small  reducing the volume for the dog s body to heat up.The floor is 3"x2" as well for insulation value. There is nothing to stop you from using these off cuts to build a house or shed, they are only rubbish going to land fill or for fire wood. You could use them in a cord wood walls.Houses could be built and they could be dome shaped or even made into a sphere and still keep there strength and integraty as you can see from the photo below the walls on the side are not vertical at the base.Furnature could be built of the same stuff and be sculptured to suit the form of the body there use is endless uses. There is one drawback with furnature in that it is heavy,I had to battle in the end to move this kennel.

The Foxterrier is trying out the cattle dogs kennel

The next shows the back of the kennel

Jingle bells

Jingle bells
Dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden ute
Kicking up the dust, esky's in the boot
My dog is by my side, singing Christmas songs
Its summertime and I am in my singlet, shorts and thongs.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
Christmas in Australia, on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Datsun ute.

Engines getting hot; we dodge some Kangaroos,
Swaggie climbs on board, he is welcome too
All the familys there, sitting in the creek.
Christmas day the Aussie way, with the barbecue

Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Christmas in Australia, on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden ute

Come the afternoon, Daddy has a doze
The kids and uncle John, are swimming in the nude
The time doe's come around, pack the family up
Pack the car and all shoot through, before the washing up.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Christmas in Australia, on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!
Dashing through the bush in a rusty Falcon ute.

Note The word Holden can be changed with falcon or toyota or whatever car you drive
